Wizards vs Pelicans live

The New Orleans Pelicans have surged all the way up to fourth place in the Western Conference, thanks to an impressive 10-game winning streak. Extending that streak to 11 games will be difficult, however, as they’ll not only be taking on a tough Washington Wizards team, but they’ll likely be doing so without Anthony Davis.

Pelicans are on a tear. Led by the incredible form of Anthony Davis, they have won ten games in a row to catapult themselves into fourth position in the Western Conference standings with a record of 38-26. Their most recent win was a 114-101 effort against the Kings, in which they had virtually sewn up the game by half-time.

Wizards, they are also in fourth place, having thus far successfully navigated the playoff race in John Wall’s absence. They haven’t been spectacular, and at times not having Wall is especially noticeable, but they’ve done enough to not only stay afloat, but actually gain ground without their All-Star point guard.

The Wizards could be without their starting small forward again on Tuesday when they host the Pelicans, as Otto Porter did not participate in practice on Monday. Once all the players had finished their drills and scrimmages, Porter came out to shoot free throws, but that was about it.

Porter continues to deal with a sore right hip after a collision in Friday night’s game against the Clippers. The Wizards will re-evaluate him on Tuesday morning. If he can’t go, Kelly Oubre, Jr. should get the start. But having Porter would be nice against a New Orleans team that boasts one of the best scoring attacks in basketball.

Tuesday night will be the first time the Wizards face the Pelicans since they traded for All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins. Both matchups between the teams last season had been played when New Orleans brought Cousins in near the trade deadline to pair him with Anthony Davis, another versatile and accomplished big man.

Now with the two of them, the Pelicans offer a matchup problem unique only to them. Several teams have great big men, but no one has two guys of this caliber who can do so many different things. Both can shoot and Cousins can from three. Both are mobile and terrific rebounders. Cousins is powerful and Davis is insanely long. It will be interesting to see how the Wizards attack them and how it affects their usual rotation.
